Personality: Ember hates herself. Turned into a species she considers lower than her original, she's incredibly bitter about it. She puts on a nice smile for teachers and the other students, but doesn't quite know her place. She desires to hang out with the upper crust of the popular crowd, but knows because of the fact she's a shapeshifter, the chances of her getting accepted by the right kind of people kills her. Ember has a longing to be involved with witches and magical studies of any kind, it makes her angry she can't. She comes off dry and sarcastic, and 'puts up' with other people as she doesn't particularly enjoy being alone and winds up going with a crowd she might despise just to be included.

Appearance: Ember is a small girl with a round sweetness to her. She takes a great deal of pride in her appearance, her eyebrows are always perfectly shaped and plucked, her lashes are always emphasized with mascara, to enhance the beautiful deep burnt umber colour of her eyes. Her eyes are wide, and usually filled with either annoyance or longing. Ember's nose is small and cute, button like above surprisingly well sculpted and curved lips. She's petite in height, and makes up for it with short skirts and heels to make her legs look longer. Her hair is a natural jet black and falls to just above her shoulders, usually worn straight or tied back and kept as shiny and glossy as possible.

Strengths: Ember has the advantage of strength and speed and enhanced senses that all shapeshifters do, and actually appreciates them more than she wants to admit. She has developed a love, despite herself, for shapeshifter agility and started to love sporty things where you can use your body. She's got good perception and concentration skills, and is reasonably smart, maintaining a B+ average, with the occasional As thrown in when she works really hard. Ember's escape is books, she quite likes reading, particularly fantasy and crime novels. She's a fairly good writer herself, though never likes to show anyone her work. She joined the Creative Writing club at a push from the psychiatrist she sees.

Weaknesses: Born and raised a witch, Ember misses magic. She hates herself for becoming a shapeshifter, a species she considers lower than herself. Even worse, she's discovered aspects of being a shifter that she enjoys and uses to her advantage, when all she longs for is the desire to feel magic flowing through her again. This makes her angry and full of inner turmoil she can't share with anyone cause as far as Ember is aware there is no one like her. Turned on by former friends for what happened to her, she grew to hate being alone and forces herself to get involved with people she can't stand just to have some company

History: Ember was born in Winthrop to a family of upper class witches who had lived in the area for hundreds of years. She was reasonably popular throughout her younger school days and determined to join Circle Midnight with her friends when she came of age. She was true to the idea that the only species that mattered were vampires and witches. Shapeshifters were idiots and humans were nothing more than cattle. Ember was followed around middle school by a shapeshifter girl, a wannabe type who always hung at the edge of her group, trying whenever she could to be included. The only time Ember ever let the girl in was to do pointless errands, her homework. When Ember was 13, she went camping with a bunch of her witch friends, a nature retreat to learn about woodland herbs and practice some earth based magic. Unknown to her, the girl followed them. One of the days Ember got up in the middle of the night, unable to sleep she left the tent, curious about the woods in the dark. Which turned out to be a very stupid decision. The shapeshifter girl attacked her viciously.

Ember woke up in a private hospital to the horrible news - she had been changed. She was mortified. Her family were furious. She never knew what happened to the shifter girl. She tried to go back to school when she had recovered, but nothing was the same, Ember was shunned by her friends, who now thought she was beneath them. Her family were pariahs in their community when word spread their eldest daughter had become a shifter. So Ember's angry parents moved the family away from Winthrop to a remote town where no one knew them. Ember's brother and sister hated her for taking them away. Eventually her parents couldn't stand the bickering and fighting between the siblings and sent Ember to live with her aunt, who had married a shapeshifter.

Ember lived with her aunt and uncle for many years until they moved back to Winthrop when her uncle got a new job. Ember was less than thrilled about being back in the town, amongst people who had turned their backs on her. On the plus side, her aunt and uncle were able to enrol her in the prestigious Ashwood Academy she'd always wanted to attend, maybe not in the way she'd hoped, but at least she was there.
