About the Night World
The Night World isn't a place. It's all around us. It's a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other creatures of darkness that live among us. They're beautiful and deadly and irresistible to humans. Your high school teacher could be one, and so could your boy/girlfriend... The Night World laws say it's okay to hunt humans. It's okay to toy with their hearts, it's even okay to kill them. There are only two things you can't do with them:
  1. Never let them find out about the Night World
  2. Never fall in love with one of them.

The Night World

The Night World is as stated above, a secret society. Around the "Burning Times" (See the Witch section for more on that) was when it became evident that absolute secrecy was needed. Before that the Night World existed but wasn't too concerned about hiding themselves from the rest of the world (speculation there oh and here, heh). It wasn't that they lived in peace with each other or humans, but they never really needed to worry about any real reaction from the humans. Humans were often thought to be stupid & naive (which we kinda are I guess) and used primarily as a food source for vampires and shifters. But when witch hunts began, it became clear that the humans must not know about the fact that they exist. Proving that though they're not too smart in the head, they could still do a lot of damage. So they blended in and with the rise of the Redfern Lamia family, the council set up the laws regarding humans. Secrecy was imperative, and they feared a repeat of the Burning Times, something they would do anything to avoid again.

The Council

The Night World Council is made up of some pretty old vampires, some high ranking witches and the royalty of the shifters. These groups attempt to work together (though most of the time they just argue) over policies and take care of matters that will affect all the groups. They've been very inactive over the years since they seem to have gotten comfortable with the way things are. No one knows for sure who is on the Council since they must be in hiding a lot of the time due to hunters. There are only rumors and the group meets about once every decade, if any sooner it is to deal with a vital topic.

Influence on the Game

n this game, the "Night World" exists, as does the council, but as stated above, it's not quite the same. Maya is thought to be dead, no one is sure who exactly is on the council (except the Harmans probably know which of their family leads the entire witch race) and they're in hiding for the most part. The Council has very little to do though each group of people enforce the laws of the Night World strictly. The groups located on Graves Island actually do not allow a lot of what most Night Worlder's accept, they merely just want to live in peace.
