Graves Island is a rather large island off the coast of the state of Maine and is mostly wildlife and very little civilization. The majority of the island make up is forest with a large mountain eastern most part of the island. The mountain is called Big Blue by the citizens though it is more a very large hill. It's named that due to the bluish color grass that covers most of what is not already concealed by snow. Big Blue can be seen from anywhere on Graves Island and many go to it for hiking or biking during the spring and fall seasons. There aren't many trees on the actual mountain, save near the base, only small batches and the top is completely bare. Unlike most hills Big Blue has a jagged side of rock that resembles more of a mountain with a a few cliffs which faces insland. The Point is located on one of these small cliffs.

The forest pretty much takes up whatever is left, some plots of land have been cleared to make room for homes from the early days of Winthrop and to build Ashwood Academy. The forest is thick is some parts where in others seems to leave clearings. One such clearing is where The Fountain is located and many believe that area to be sacred ground since no trees seem to overtake the old stone structures, only ivy. The thickest part of the forest is also the one that looks the most menacing, referred to as The Dark. The wood here so thick that the tree branches cover most the roads blocking out a lot of the sun, giving it a night like atmosphere. The forest is filled with various wildlife from deer to raccoons to foxes and squirrels. There have been sightings of large cats like mountain lions, but no effort to hunt them has been made.

Beach covers most of the shore line but some parts are mainly rocks, and that is usually where a lot of large waves from the Atlantic hit. A one bridge and the only bridge to the mainland leads out from Winthrop and directly into mainland part of the state of Maine.

During the summer the temperatures go to a maximum of 80°F. Winters can get as cold as below freezing with a windchill making it feel like -20°F. The beaches are restricted during the winter due to violent waves that tend to appear for safety reasons. The island gets a decent amount of rainfall over the year but not too much. Snow can reach up to six feet deep during particularly bad weather.
