History

Founded by Sir Willaby Ashwood, the school was the made through the efforts of the founding families of Winthrop. At first they intended to keep the students close by, but the parents agreed in order for their students to truly concentrate on their studies, they would be better off away from home. With them allowed to come home on weekends and occasional weeknights, it seemed the best solution. So the local masons built the school, which started off as only the main office building. As the amount of children of age to attend grew in the small town, more buildings were constructed.

The parents of Winthrop felt the need to educate their children was important, and originally the students of Ashwood were almost all Night Worlders. The school prepared them to adjust living with humans when they would go live on their own, as well as giving them the best education possible. As more humans began to move into Winthrop, more of the student body became them. After the tragedy with the witches, the school felt it necessary to raise the precautions with the students and enforce stricter rules. Separate housing was the first, though the human students didn't know why they were suddenly split up. Even though it was the supposed work of a serial killer, the school dared not to risk exposure.

Even though they did accept human students, the amount was watched carefully and some students were sent to go to school on the mainland. Over the past ten years more human students have been allowed in, the school patrons believeing their security was tight enough to allow more in.
